The numbers you will hear in the sessions

Live workshops mean figures said out loud, and figures said out loud are harder to weigh than figures on a page. Here is how to listen to them without either swallowing them or dismissing the whole session.

The three kinds of number you will hear

Career totals. Gross sales across a working life, often across many products and a team. Not income, not profit, not what anyone kept.

Student results. Individual outcomes, shown because they stood out. That is what selection means and it is not the same as dishonesty.

Worked examples. "If you did X at rate Y." These are arithmetic rather than claims, and they are the only category you can actually use, because you can substitute your own inputs.

Which of the three is worth your attention

The third, and it is usually the one people remember least. A worked example can be rerun with realistic numbers instead of optimistic ones, and doing that during the session is the single most useful thing you can do while watching.

Career totals and standout results cannot be rerun. They describe a position you are not starting from.

What to do while a big figure is on screen

Ask what it is a total of, over what period, and whether it is revenue or what somebody took home. Those three questions deflate almost any headline number to something comprehensible, and they are questions rather than accusations.

None of this means a session is misleading. It means the persuasive figures and the useful figures are different figures, and only one kind survives being examined.

The number to leave the session with

Yours. Commission per sale multiplied by sales you would realistically make in a year at effort you can genuinely sustain.

Small, unglamorous, and more informative about this decision than any total belonging to anyone else. Write it down during the session while the mechanics are fresh.

The habit worth keeping afterwards

Treat every figure in every piece of launch material anywhere as one person's result, shown precisely because it was exceptional. It costs nothing, it is correct, and it lets you enjoy the teaching without arguing with the arithmetic.
